I can't believe that summer's over. There is only one thing I NEVER miss about summer's end and that is the HEAT! But while it's almost unbearable at times, the kids have found some fun things to do to beat the heat. The first thing they've enjoyed these couple of weeks that they've been out of school is: THE SUPER SLIDE! The people I babysit for bought it for their kids and were kind enough to share it with us. It is like an inflatable bouncer plus water... hours of fun. They've also played with water balloons in a game called splash out, and last but not least, they discovered a love for a new pool. The old BMI pool (for you OG's of Henderson). This is where the title comes in. Erick (5) upon arriving at said pool, immediately, without hesitation, fearlessly, asks, "Can I go on the diving board?" I am super careful (that's my word choice)about my kids. Erick has had a total of 16 swim lessons in his life and wanted to jump into an 11 ft deep pool, alone, and swim all by himself. I thought I was making progress since I let him go on the big slide at the Black Mountain pool all by himself. But this request made me feel like throwing up a little. So I agreed with conditions: if he walked on the diving board, jumped in normal, and I stood by the side of the pool the whole time. Of course he did just fine, and inspired his older sister Rachel (7) to do the same. Now any of you that know Erick can probably predict what happened next. Of course he wasn't getting enough thrills on the low dive and wanted to try the high dive. I freaked out! I remember being terrified of that thing as a youngster myself. Erick successfully did a "cheesestick" (arms and legs straight) off the high dive, and loved every second of it. (See now that we've been going to this pool I have learned the lingo.) Here are some more moves attempted (not always successfully) off of the high dive. The helicopter (spinning in air as you jump), the jump kick (self explanitory,) and the pencil (aka the cheesestick.) The older boys were doing flips and dives, he wanted to try but I had to tell him he was not trained in those jedi ways yet. I am sure that each summer will bring more daring stunts, he is a boy afterall. And just so you know, Rachel would not be outdone by Erick and decided to try the high dive herself. And so to me both of my kids seem...FEARLESS!

I'm very impressed with the diving lingo you've picked up. Glad you guys had a fun summer.
You are a brave mom. I was getting nervous just reading about Erick going on the diving board!
They are fearless! I still wouldn't jump off the high dive unless I needed to jump in to save one of my kids! You will have to tell them we are very impressed!!
I feel like throwing up just reading it....you are a great mom to let them try it! I would have been freaking out therefore my kids would have been freaking out which would have led to them changing their minds. :)
I am really proud of Rachel and Erick and there Mom for letting them try new adventures. I'm just glad I wasn't there to watch!
Hooray for Rachel and Erick
Boys have a different fear level, that's what I've found. We just went to BMI last week, for the first time this summer. Next year I think we'll go lots more, because it isn't nearly as crowded.....and the kids do love it. So, is the "cheesestick" the same as the "pencil" dive?
