Letting Go

Well as with most of you readers, we started back to school this week too! Rachel started 2nd grade and Erick (my baby) is now in half day kindergarten! Our Monday morning started off smoothly with Brian talking the day off we were able to be in 2 places at once. I was with Rachel on the regular playground, and Brian was with Erick at the kindergarten playground. Rachel just got out of school 2 weeks ago, so she didn't feel nervous. Especially because she has one of her best friend's (in the picture with her) in her class, so that always helps. Erick has a few friends from his primary class in his school class. Having the same teacher and classroom as Rachel did helped him feel secure and happy. There were no tears (for him anyways!) I, however, had to visit the PTA'S "boo-hoo" table which was set up by the kindergarten area complete with kleenex and candy. (Really it was a sneak attack to get you to join the PTA.) Rachel was bound and determined to ride the bus this year, but Erick not so much. Our compromise is that Rachel can ride the bus home. After this week, I know why I have been so reluctant to let her ride the bus at all. She couldn't find the right bus on day one, day two she got off on the wrong stop, and day four I got pulled over by a cop while trying to get her to school safely! Luckily I have been meeting her afterschool and following the bus to make sure all goes smoothly. Day five we might finally get it right. Now you can see why I have had a hard time...letting go!

I hope the bus thing got worked out today. The pictures of your kids are so cute. Sometime I feel like mine will never get that big or old. I'm sure they will sooner than later.

What happened at the cop stop? How does Rachel like riding the bus after all the things that have happened? The both look very cute for the first day of school.

Natalie, I can't believe your baby is going to Kindergarten! How does that feel? Our baby is starting preschool Tues. It has been a long awaited milestone that now I'm not so sure about. What will you do with all that free time?

Natalie, I wish we'd had the boo-hoo table, I needed it. Hope she figured out the bus thing. I always got off on the wrong stop. But if I could even figure it out, I am sure Rachel can.

Natalie, I got Braden's Harry Potter costume at the Halloween store. It was $25--expensive. The glasses were another 5. I was in a bind.....had allergies last week and didn't feel like sewing anything.....so I ran out of time and just gave in and spent the money. But, he does love it!
